Welcome to my Class!

My name is Mrs. James and I am very excited to be one of your sixth grade teachers for the 2007 - 2008 school year.  I am new to Skyview Middle School, but I have been teaching for the past six years in Pueblo and Pueblo West.  I feel fortunate to be working with such a supportive, outstanding school, and community.  I look forward to working with you so you can be successful in the classroom and enthusiastic about learning.  It is my goal to ensure that you have a positive self-concept about learning and the desire to be successful.  As an educator, I believe that it is important to have high expectations for all students.  I feel it is my responsibility to awaken the natural curiosity that you possess.  This is best accomplished by creating a fun, nurturing, and safe learning environment.

At Skyview we believe in the three R’s:

                Respect

                Ready

                Responsibility

These are also the expectations in our classroom.  Students should line up in a single file line, along the wall quietly and wait till all students from the previous class have exited the room. When students come into the class, come ready, and prepared to begin.  Always be respectful of fellow students, teachers, our classroom, and the building.  When entering the classroom, students need to hang up personal items and backpacks.  Students should remove only the supplies needed for our class and take their assigned seat.  Students will then write their homework assignment in their planners, and start the Warm Up assignment on the board while attendance is taken.  Students will be given a text book to keep at home for their reference.  They do not need to bring it in their backpack each time we have class.  It is to stay home for their use in studying and completing assignments.  Always have a reading book in your backpack.  The book should be something you are interested in and appropriate for school.  Students need to read when they have completed an activity we are doing in class and while other students are still working.

Students are only allowed to have water in the classroom.  Water bottles need to be kept on the floor and under their desks.  Gum and food are not allowed.

I highly encourage students and parent to check the 6th Grade Web Site for daily assignments and upcoming tests.  Also, when a parent has received their PowerSchool password, grades and attendance can be checked via the internet at anytime.  I am available before and after school, and during access hour for additional assistance with assignments.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at school.

I look forward to a fun and rewarding school year!
