    Requirements

The diary includes 6 entries. Each entry is 2-3 paragraphs long. All diary content requirements have been met.

Almost all (about 80%) the written requirements were met.

Most (about 60%) of the written requirements were met, but several were not.

    Many requirements were not met.

    Focus on Assigned Topic

The entire diary is related to the assigned topic and allows the reader to understand much more about the topic.

Most of the diary is related to assigned topic. The diary wanders, but the reader can still learn about the topic.

Some of the diary is related to the assigned topic, but a reader does not learn much about the topic.

No attempt has been made to relate the diary to the assigned topic.

    Adding Personality (Voice)

The writer seems to be writing from knowledge or experience. The author has taken the ideas and made them "his own."

The writer seems to be drawing on knowledge or experience, but there is some lack of ownership of the topic.

The writer relates some of his own knowledge or experience, but it adds nothing to the discussion of the topic.

The writer has not tried to transform the information in a personal way. The ideas and the way they are expressed seem to belong to someone else.

    Accuracy of Facts

All facts presented in the diary are accurate.

Almost all facts presented in the diary are accurate.

Most facts presented in the diary are accurate (at least 60%).

There are several factual errors in the diary.

    Organization

The diary is very well organized. Each entry includes a date. One entry follows another in a logical sequence.

The diary is pretty well organized. Some entries include dates. One entry may seem out of place.

The diary is a little hard to follow. A few of the entries include dates.

Entries seem to be randomly arranged. None of the entries include dates.

     Dear Parents,

As I explained to the learners, this project is an assessment and will replace a traditional written test.  I have urged everyone to complete this assignment fully and on time.  Anyone who does not use the time in class and disturbs others, and anyone who does not turn this assignment in by May 8-9 will take a written test after all…I need to assess their overall understanding of this unit, and I will not allow anyone to have a 0/50!  Thank you so much for your support.  Mrs. Boies
