Mrs. Leyh’s
GUIDE TO
SUCCESS/EXPECTATIONS
in Algebra
WELCOME! As students prepare for high school, they will
find that their responsibilities will be more and
expectations will be greater. During this academic
school year, students will be continuing their learning
and discovery in Algebraic and Geometrical thinking and
application. The following information will give
students what is expected of them and their guide to
success!
EXPECTATIONS:
1.
All assignments must be handed in on time and at least
75% complete.
Students will have the opportunity to turn in late
assignments or incomplete assignments by 8:10am the
following morning for 50% credit. Students have the
opportunity to get extra help and complete assignments
each day during Access Hour or after school
Monday—Thursday from 2:40 pm to 3:15 pm.
2.
Any
students coming to class with work not complete or
missing may owe after school or before school to
complete the work, and to demonstrate understanding of
content and success of skills.
3.
Any
missed assignments due to absences will be the
responsibility of the student. Students have one
calendar day to return make-up work. Each teacher has a
place in the classroom where make-up work can be turned
in and collected. Students may also access the homework
online at svm.district70.org/eighth. Students need to
utilize the fifteen minutes at the beginning of Literacy
to collect absent work and turn in absent work.
4.
Parents and students should expect to have math homework
each night. All assessments and assignments will be
graded on total points received and level of
demonstrating proficiency. A letter grade will be earned
based on the district grading scale. Students needing
additional tutoring in Math may stay after school with
their teacher, or they may access a Math tutorial online
at my.hrw.com. Students may access this web site to
receive additional examples or tutoring for their math
homework.
5.
Cheating will not be tolerated!
6.
Be
prepared with all supplies and assignments needed for
class! (Supply List given in 8th Grade Team Letter)
RESTROOM BREAKS:
Students will be given a break to use the restroom and
get a drink during the 85 minute class period.
Therefore, students will not be allowed to use the
restroom during classroom instruction unless an

use the restroom and get a drink.
GUIDE TO
SUCCESS/EXPECTATIONS
in Access
Hour
At
the beginning of each day, students will be given sixty
minutes to complete homework and access teachers for
additional tutoring. Students will have twenty minutes
(1:55pm-2:15pm) to access teachers, collect or turn in
homework, get textbooks need to complete homework, and
to make-up assessments or tests. After the twenty
minutes, 2:15, students are to remain in their assigned
Access Hour classroom to study and complete work.
Therefore, students will not be allowed to leave the
Access Hour classroom after 2:15pm.
Students receive a grade of pass or fail in this class.
They are graded on a total of 25 points per week. This
grade is based mostly on behavior and appropriate
participation in the class. Students are given this
time for individual study therefore, they are expected
to use the time wisely and to work quietly. Students
are not allowed to complete work in groups or allowed to
complete group projects for core classes. If students
have completed all assignments, they are expected to
have a reading book (novel) with them to read.
Additionally, an assignment may be given to those who
cannot use the study time for their benefit.
In an
effort to encourage students to use the privilege of
Access Hour appropriately and to complete work, they
will be limited to three hall passes a week. Once
students have used their three passes, they cannot leave
the classroom for the remainder of the week. Therefore,
students are encouraged to use their passes wisely! Any
students unable to leave the classroom are more than
welcome to ask for assistance from their Access Hour
Teacher.
