Skyview Announcements and News

Night of The Arts

Ms. Gill, our art teacher, and Mr. Zambrano, our music teacher, have put together an evening of art displays and musical performances to showcase our students' talents.  Our parent organization, the Titan Club, is also sponsoring a silent auction and bake sale to benefit Mr. Zambrano to help with his mounting medical expenses from his battle with cancer.

Night of the Arts:    May 8, 2008  6:00 p.m.  Skyview Middle School    Free Admission

If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Gill at 547-1175 or Natalie Dever-Jankelow, Titan Club president, at 647-1728.

Fundraising for Mr. Zambrano

Texas Roadhouse Night (May 6):  Eat at Texas Roadhouse, tell your server you are there to support Skyview, and 10% of your bill will be donated back to Skyview to help Mr. Z.

Our Titan Club is currently working on sponsoring several fundraising opportunities for Mr. Zambrano.  For those of you not aware, Mr. Zambrano is our music teacher who is battling cancer.  His medical bills and co-pays are piling up, and our students wanted the opportunity to help him.  His students have been making get well cards, and the entire student body has been showing their support.  Each Friday, Titan Club is sponsoring days where students wear hats, jerseys, or other items.  Students pay $1.00 to wear the article.  All proceeds go directly to help Mr. Zambrano.  Reminder bracelets are being sold in the office for $3.00, as well.  We thank you for all of your support!!!!!!

End of the Year Academy Information from Mr. Nielsen, principal

Last month, I mentioned a calendar change in my letter to you in our newsletter.  I discussed how students that received passing grades in all classes (Cs or better) would end their official school year on May 16th.  These students would have the option to attend school the last four days of the school year.  Students with Fs or Ds (for either semester) would be required to attend school on May 19th through May 22nd.  I am still receiving telephone calls about this.  While I am happy to answer any questions, I am concerned that I have not been clear enough about the program.  Letters were sent to the parents of the students that could be required to attend the final four days of school.  They were sent out just before Parent / Teacher conferences.  We will be meeting with all the students individually in April and May to discuss their situation.  Parents: please get on PowerSchool to look at your student's report cards and grade checks.  We hope that this program achieves two goals.  The first goal is  to inspire our students to reach their full potential.  Our second purpose is to reach the students who may be struggling on a more individual level to better prepare them for next school year.  This does not eliminate the possibility we will be recommending summer school or retention for some of the students, but it does mean that we want to keep working with our students all the way through the full school year.  If you still have questions, please contact me at 547-1175.  I will be very happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Yearbook Deadline Has Passed

December 1, 2007 was the deadline for ordering this year's yearbook.  The Skyview Yearbook is an all-color, top quality, hardback book of memories for your child.   During the last week of school, students are given the opportunity to obtain their friends' and teachers' signatures on their yearbook.

A waiting list has been started.  Please contact Mrs. Batt to be placed on the waiting list, if you missed the deadline.  Please understand that placement on the waiting list is no guarantee that your student will receive a yearbook.
